Elizaveta Barsega is a sculptor, formerly based in Berlin and now living in Ibiza, with a background in fine art and folk crafts. She studied traditional ceramic techniques through formal education and hands-on apprenticeship with master potters. Her practice has been further shaped by extensive field research in the Moroccan Desert, the Riff Mountains, Northern Thailand, and along the riverbanks of Georgia.
In 2022, she founded Barsega Studio Gallery in Berlin—an interdisciplinary space dedicated to ceramic sculpture, education, and the revival of ancestral methods of working with clay and natural pigments. The studio serves as both a gallery and a learning environment, where traditional craft intersects with contemporary ritual and ecological sensitivity.
Barsega’s sculptural works, which she refers to as “Prayers,” are hand-formed ceramic pieces created through a process that is as much spiritual as it is material. Her approach draws from archaic techniques, including wild-harvesting minerals and natural pigments, and firing clay at temperatures up to 1400°C.
Her work explores clay not only as a medium, but as a living element—one that carries memory, grounding, and transformation. Barsega sees her role not as a sole creator, but as a collaborator with nature, guiding raw earth through its metamorphosis into form. Each sculpture is a tactile meditation on impermanence, presence, and the sacred in the natural world.
